K500,000 for Team PNG

The PNG Olympic Committee received a cheque of K500,000 from the sales of the 2019 Trukai Fun Run t-shirts.

Trukai Industries Ltd proudly presented the cheque on Friday in Port Moresby.

93,492 t-shirts were sold from this year’s June 16th fun run – both from auctions and the t-shirt sales.

Trukai Industries says this year’s fun run was a huge success, compared to previous years’. Both the Lae and Port Moresby auctions recorded a total of 61,000 t-shirts.

In receiving the K500,000 cheque, Team PNG Chef de Mission, Emma Waiwai, expressed the PNG Olympic Committee’s heartfelt gratitude to Trukai.

“Your support, like I said, always goes a long way towards our preparation and certainly for this year, it has really helped because we are taking a bigger team than normal,” she said. “Not as big as 2015 but still a big team so that K500,000 really helps to make sure that our athletes are going and performing.

“They’re all ready now to go and perform at their best. And when they hear things like this, I’m sure it really motivates them to go and make sure that what they achieve, is not only for them and for their families but also for sponsors like you.”

Apart from the cheque presentation, Trukai also donated 1.25 tonnes of rice for Team PNG to take to Samoa. The rice donation consists of 50 bags of 10kg Jasmine rice, 50 10kg bags of Trukai, and 25 10kg bags of Natural Brown – all worth about K5,000.

The 16th Pacific Games will take place on the 7th-20th July where the PNGOC will be sending 500 athletes and officials to represent PNG.
